Fourth Friday Art Walks, Belfast Creative Coalition

On every Fourth Friday the streets of Belfast are transformed into a whimsical wonderland to celebrate the warm summer evenings. From 5:30 until 8:00 pm you may follow the sound of music, where on any corner a fiddler, crooner or cool jazz soloist will entertain, or across the way a lively dancer will leap and whirl, a persuasive poet will wax eloquent, and perhaps a mime can charm you with silent illusion.

Explore imaginative art galleries that brighten up downtown, featuring both local and nationally recognized artists. Look for the ever-changing and always enticing  ‘Farm to Gallery’ food tastings coordinated by Maine Farmland Trust.

All Roads Music Fest, Launchpad

All Roads is a one-day festival and celebration of indie music, featuring some of the most talented local music artists from across the state and region. The festival features performances in a variety of genres including indie rock, folk, pop, bluegrass and indie folk musicians, as well as performers from related contemporary genres, such as alternative country, punk and hip-hop.

The festival will offer over 2 dozen performances, representing 125+ Maine musicians in 2018. The festival also includes discussion panels, curated showcases and the Maine Songwriters Circle.

Belfast Ukulele Festival, Midcoast Ukes

Each summer Ukulele enthusiasts gather for the annual Belfast Uke Fest at Steamboat Landing on the downtown Belfast waterfront.

The day is filled with ensemble performances, headline acts, and a variety of fun and informative ukulele workshops. Enjoy food, refreshments, and music vendors set up throughout the event area.

Belfast Uke Fest is hosted by the Belfast Parks & Recreation Department in partnership with Our Town Belfast and the Midcoast Ukes.

Belfast Has Pride

Supporting LGBTQ+ folks in the MidCoast through organizing, advocacy, and community building, from organizing the annual Belfast Pride Parade and Festival to supporting area efforts to increase supports for LGBTQ+ Mainers impacted by homelessness to providing opportunities for gathering and fellowship between community members in the area.​ 

Last year’s first Belfast Has Pride Parade and Festival drew hundreds from across the MidCoast. We’re looking forward to making this year’s events bigger and better, and we hope to see you there!

Trek Across Maine, American Lung Association

The Trek Across Maine is a 3-day, 180 mile cycling event from the mountains of Sunday River to the sea in Belfast. As the largest fundraising event of its kind in the nation for the American Lung Association, the Trek has raised more than $24 million in the past 30+ years. Join nearly 2,000 cyclists and 750 volunteers on this one of a kind journey on Father’s Day Weekend.

The Trek Across Maine offers three route options with varying levels of mileage and fundraising. Registration fee is $65 (non-refundable & non-transferable) for each route option. Registration fee does not count toward fundraising minimum.

Summer Musical, Belfast Maskers

Make sure to mark your calendars for the annual Belfast Maskers summer musical! Enjoy a night out and cheer on members of the community as they don costumes and show off their sometimes-hidden talents for singing, dancing and acting. People of all ages participate in these shows, which in recent years have included Annie, The Addams Family and The Music Man. And if you’ve ever been tempted to try your hand at theater, either on or off stage, give us a try! You don’t need to have previous experience to be a Masker and people of all skill levels are welcome to participate. The Belfast Maskers is truly community theater.

Happy Birthday America!, Cold Comfort Theater

Cold Comfort Theater will be presenting a spirited performance of song and dance to celebrate America’s birthday and honor our service women and men! Songs from the 1800s all the way to the current era will be presented LIVE at Belfast’s ‘Park on Main’, located on Main Street between Rollie’s and the bay. This FREE program is a heartwarming and sentimental homage to our country! Drive up, walk down, bring your seat and sing along with such familiar tunes as ‘Boogie, Woogie, Bugle Boy’, ‘America the Beautiful’, ‘This Land is Your Land’, and ‘Stars Spangled Banner’.

Arts in the Park

Arts in the Park is one of the most respected fine arts and crafts festivals in Midcoast Maine. The variety of artwork and crafts is outstanding, and continuous live music and the smells of freshly grilled food add to the festival atmosphere. The venue is undeniably beautiful: set on the water’s edge, right downtown, with sailboats and dinghies moored a few feet away.

The Maine Celtic Celebration is a three day, family oriented, celebration of the rich Celtic heritage, culture and hospitality found along the Coast of Maine.

The 3-day celebration is a “donation only” event taking place at the Belfast Commons and Steamboat Landing Park.

Our Town Belfast Auction & Gala, Our Town Belfast

Each year Our Town Belfast showcases items and experiences unique to Belfast and Midcoast Maine at our Annual Auction and Gala.  Where else can you bid on a schooner excursion around the bay, a vintage-style portrait of your home, or a photo with the rooftop elephant at the Colonial Theatre?

Join us for a night of community, cocktails, refreshments, and friendly bidding wars, all while supporting the economic health and human happiness of our historic downtown.

Annual Belfast Street Party, Our Town Belfast

The Annual Belfast Street Party takes place each year in early August.  High and Church Streets shut down to make way for live music, food vendors, and kid-friendly carnival attractions.  “Like” the Annual Belfast Street Party on Facebook to stay updated on this year’s event!

There is no admission fee for this outdoors street event, held on High and Church streets, from Main Street to the American Legion Hall in downtown Belfast, the first Monday every August from 5-10:30pm. The Street Party features music, dancing, performances, bounce houses, carnival rides, food and beverages for purchase, kids’ area with face painting, and much more.

Belfast Harbor Fest, Belfast Rotary Club

The Belfast Harborfest is an annual event held on the third weekend in August on the Belfast Waterfront, sponsored by the Belfast Rotary Club.  Highlights include the 5k Bug Run, Pancake Breakfast, National Boat Building Challenge, and live music.

Maine Wienerfest, P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and Friends of Belfast Parks

Maine Wienerfest is a celebration of dachshunds and the people who love them! Now in its 15th year, the event will be held on Sunday September 9th from 11am-3pm at the Steamboat Landing Park in Belfast.

Maine Wienerfest originated as an informal picnic and gathering for families who lived with these adorable, tiny dogs. Gradually, it grew to include other activities with the number of dogs and dog lovers increasing each year. This year, P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center and The Friends of Belfast Parks continue the tradition with all proceeds benefitting P.A.W.S.

If you’ve ever been to the Fair, you know – and if you haven’t been, anyone who has will tell you – it’s an event like no other, that brings together so many people from so many walks of life, all in the spirit of celebrating the rural and agricultural traditions of Maine. The Common Ground Country Fair is a fair in Unity, Maine sponsored by the Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA). The fair began in 1977 in Litchfield, Maine.

Belfast Poetry Festival, Belfast Poet Laureate 

The Belfast Poetry Festival celebrates poetry and artistic possibility. One of the few community-based, non-academic literary festivals in the country, the Festival is an inclusive and collaboration-driven event that gives poets, artists, and audience broad opportunity to make connections, share ideas, and discover possibilities for the arts beyond the merely expected. The Festival joins poets and artists in collaborative work that stretches the limits of each medium. We bring together established, recognized poets and emerging voices, a broad range of genres and techniques, poets from different regions across the state, and a mix of the familiar and the innovative.

Belfast Tree Lighting, Our Town Belfast

Our Town Belfast invites community members to Post Office Square to celebrate the holidays in Belfast. The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in downtown Belfast, ME is held the first Saturday in December: the same day as the Annual Early Bird Sale in Belfast.

The event begins at 4:30pm with cookies, cocoa, and caroling. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by Fire Truck before the tree is lit at 5pm. After the lighting, Mr. and Mrs. Claus head indoors to KeyBank for visits and photos with the children. The annual tree lighting is the perfect way to experirence the magic of Belfast for the holidays!

Belfast Menorah Lighting, Our Town Belfast

Our Town Belfast invites community members to Post Office Square to celebrate the holidays in Belfast. Everyone will gather around the 7-foot-tall menorah near sundown on the first night of Chanukah. The community celebrates with music, readings, and traditional snacks. The menorah will remain lit throughout the holiday.

Holiday Concerts, Our Town Belfast

Our Town Belfast invites the community to the United Farmer’s Market in downtown Belfast for fun, food, dancing, and merriment as we celebrate the holiday season in Belfast.  Meet up with visiting friends and family and shake off the holiday blues and extra helpings with some of Maine’s hottest local music acts.  Past performers include The Ghost of Paul Revere, Mallet Brothers Band, Milk & Honey Rebellion, and The Rugged.

New Year’s by the Bay

A yearly town-wide grass roots celebration that takes place on New Year’s Eve. NYBB is a chem-free, family oriented, affordable, cultural celebration of the New Year that takes place from 2:00pm till 12:30am., mostly in 8 indoor venues within walking distance, showcasing a wide variety of live performances, as well as several dance bands. Admission is by purchasing an NYBB Adult or Youth/Student Button to wear. Under 5 years are free.

Belfast Winter Whoopla, Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce

In February 2018, the Chamber launched the first Belfast Winter Whoopla – a 3 day event that offered a wide variety of outdoor and indoor activities, including an “Ice Ball” dinner & dance, Chili Cook-Off and a Pancake Breakfast.  The purpose was simply to get people out and have some mid-winter fun!
