COMMITTEES & VOLUNTEERS

    Our Town Belfast is an accredited Main Street America Program. We follow the 4-Point Approach centered around Economic Vitality, Design, Promotion, and Organization. We develop transformational strategies following these points to articulate a focused, deliberate path to strengthening our historic, downtown, commercial district.

    We have a small staff and rely on the help of our volunteers to do all that we do. We have four (4) major committees and and Ice Festival Committee with volunteers whose strengths and interests fulfill the committee’s goals. Below is information on each of the those committees, projects they handle, and the current members. 

    Economic Vitality (EV) Committee:

    • The goal of this committee is to attract, supporting, and sustain businesses and people downtown.
    • Monthly meetings are held on the third Thursday at 8:00 a.m.

    Committee Members:

    Mark Bergelin: OTB Board Chair

    Colby Horne: OTB Board Member

    Joellyn Warren: City of Belfast Deputy Economic Development Director

    Dorothy Havey: Director Belfast Area Chamber of Commerce

    Projects the EV committee focuses on are:

    • Monthly Business Coffee Downtown
    • Small Business Support Resources
    • Shop Small Business Support
    • Building owner assistance
    • Downtown Inventory through Building Opportunities on Main Street (BOOMS) 

    Design Committee:

    • The goal of this committee is to create an appealing appearance for downtown through historic building preservation, wayfinding (signage, maps, etc.), and placemaking (seating, lighting, plantings, etc).
    • Monthly meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.

    Alexandra Sykes: City of Belfast Planner

    David Aguiar: Member of multiple committees and groups including (but not all) Friends of Belfast Free Library, City of Belfast Parks & Recreation and Pedestrian, Transportation, Accessibility Committees

    Jacki Cassida: Resident

    Therese Bagnardi: Resident

    Projects the Design committee focuses on are:

    • Sit Down Belfast seating project
    • Plantings in tree wells and blue trash container tops
    • Belfast Area Map (10,000+ distributed annually)
    • Blue trash container wayfinding signage
    • Wreaths

    Some past projects include:

    • Painted Crosswalks
    • Tiny Houses

    Promotions Committee:

    • The goal of this committee is to create a positive image for ALL things downtown (businesses, green spaces, harbor, events, etc.). This group also plans and organizes our downtown promotions and events except for the Ice Festival (which has its own committee).
    • Monthly meetings are held on the second Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.

    Projects the Promotions Committee focuses on are:

    • Annual Cabin Fever Reliever, “Sidewalk”, Shop Small Saturday, and Early Bird Sales
    • Belfast Pride Celebration
    • Downtown Holiday Passport
    • Holiday Tree Lighting
    • Menorah Lighting

    Some past projects include:

    • Maine Craft Weekend
    • Dinner on the Bridge

    Organization Committee:

    • The goal of this committee is to ensure OTB is set up for success for many years to come.
    • Monthly meetings are held on the third Tuesday at 9:00 a.m.

    • Partners Program
    • Annual Fundraisers
    • Volunteer Recruitment
