Maine educational opportunity center event scheduled at UMaine Hutchinson Center
Belfast, Maine — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will be hosting a free workshop entitled Essentials of College Planning for adults 19 & over at the University of Maine Hutchinson Center on Tuesday, March 26 and Monday, April 1. There will be two sessions offered each day, at 9 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
MEOC is entirely funded by the U.S. Department of Education. The program assists qualified adults to transition towards a college education. MEOC, which is housed at the University of Maine, provides assistance to adults living in Maine and helps them go to whichever college or university they choose. MEOC provides GED/SAT preparation, college planning, referrals, advocacy, career advising, financial aid advising and assistance with the college admissions process at no cost.
The starting point for all MEOC participants is “The Essentials of College Planning”, a free interactive workshop that introduces people to educational opportunities in general and MEOC services in particular. This interactive workshop outlines the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career and study skills. The workshop lasts approximately 1-2 hours. Those interested may complete the required pre-registration by calling 338.8000.
MEOC successfully placed 587 Maine adults into different colleges last year.
