Everyone Needs A Wild Child (First Aid)

The Belfast Free Library offers Everyone Needs a Wild Child, a series of programs designed to get kids and families outdoors, Wednesday evenings in March 6:00-7:30p.m. The series begins March 1st and will be presented by outdoor educator and Maine Guide Nancy Zane.
Wild Child is a four session, hands on interactive series developed to get kids and families outdoors. With the right tools and knowledge anyone can get out and have a safe and enjoyable experience. Introducing kids to outdoor activities can increase self-esteem and promote health and wellness and give kids an opportunity to connect with the natural world on a personal level. It is a fun, exhilarating and bonding experience.
The first session on Wednesday March 1: Children & the Outdoors- an introduction to the how, what, why and when of outdoor activities. Session 2,Wednesday March 8th : Safety– a presentation about guidebooks, survival kits, weather and basic navigation; Session 3, Wednesday March 22nd: Dress for Success- will cover clothing and equipment to keep you safe, dry and happy; and the final session on Wednesday March 29th : First Aid – an introduction to basic first aid, how to deal with burns, bites, stings, bumps and bisters.
Nancy Zane has been working in the field of Outdoor Education for 25 years. She has worked with people of all ages from pre-schoolers to senior citizens. Currently, she teaches the EMS program at the Waldo County Technical Center, Wilderness medicine for SOLO and spends the summer guiding for Castine Kayak Adventures. Nancy has certifications in Wilderness EMT, Maine Guide, Leave No Trace Master Educator, and AHA CPR & First Aid Instructor. Her passion is the outdoors. She loves guiding, teaching and sharing the beauty of nature in a safe a respectful manner.
