(Online) Increasing Effectiveness with Critical Thinking
October 23 @ 9:00 am - October 30 @ 1:00 pm$150
Critical thinking is not a mysterious trait or an intellectual bag of tricks, but a skill that anyone can learn. It is a combination of powerful skills, ideas and practices that can help you be more effective in all your communications. This two-day workshop will improve your ability to make decisions, solve problems, advocate for a cause and communicate more effectively in your personal and professional relationships. All you need is an open mind, your natural curiosity and a willingness to step back from the action and reflect.
This online professional development workshop consists of two meetings where we will learn and practice every aspect of critical thinking in a fun and supportive atmosphere. On the first day, we’ll learn about each element of critical thinking and practice them with each other. In the second meeting, we’ll dive deeper into each aspect and combine them into your own complete, customized toolkit. During the time in between classes, you’ll be given some fun activities to do on your own. The optional third “bonus” class is a further opportunity to ask questions or continue to practice your skills.
This program is being offered by the UMaine Hutchinson Center and the UMaine Business School.
Instructor Terry Porter, PhD, is Associate Professor Emerita at the University of Maine, where she taught business strategy and sustainability in the Maine Business School for 13 years. Dr. Porter also holds an MA in Clinical Psychology and is a certified mental health counselor. She has over thirty years’ experience as a teacher, counselor, coach, guide and facilitator.
