“Pax In Our Time” Game Loft Community Learning Event
April 26 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm
One event on April 27, 2019 at 9:00 am
On April 26 and 27 the Game Loft will host its annual Pax Britannica program about the origins of World War I. You are invited to the Boathouse in Belfast to see teams of adults and youth become experts in a complex subject from the past that resonates into current politics. Nine teams will try to propel their countries to victory without causing World War I.
On Friday April 26, the nine teams will host a diplomat’s reception from 5:30-8pm at the Belfast Boathouse. At that time, you will be able to meet the teams and discuss power politics as seen through the eyes of middle and high school students and their adult mentors. If you care about education, you will be thrilled to see young people voluntarily giving up their weekend to plunge into the intricacies of history, geography, public speaking, financial record-keeping, planning, and negotiation. An international buffet of complimentary hors d’oeuvres and desserts will be offered, and attendees can expect a special game preview as teams commence the first round of play.
The Pax Britannica game will take place the following day, Saturday April 27, from 9am-5pm in the Belfast Boathouse. Teams of students, alumni, and community members will make history by trying to prevent World War I in this complex board game involving resource management, negotiation, and debate. Community members are welcome to visit and cheer on their team.
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information, please call (207) 338-6447 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
