The State of Maine’s Birds

January 21 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Free

The health and number of Maine’s bird populations have been in the news quite a bit lately. Nicholas Lund, Maine Audubon’s outreach and network manager, will give a presentation on the topic on Tuesday, January 21, at the Belfast Free Library. The program is titled, “The State of the Birds: Decades of Change.” It is free and open to the public. Hosted by the Belfast Garden Club, the program begins at 2:00 p.m., following a 1:00 members’ business meeting.

According to Lund, bird populations in Maine are continually changing. His talk and slide presentation will cover changes that have occurred during the last few decades, including which species are disappearing and which are increasing. He then will look into the future to identify what the outlook for Maine birds might be. He also will address how gardeners can help protect birds.

Nick Lund is a birder, an experienced conservation professional, and a writer. He has a regular column on the National Audubon Society’s website and is the author of the popular birding site, “The Birdist.” His writing has also appeared in The Washington Post, Slate.com, and National Geographic online, among other publications. Lund is a Maine native and holds a law degree from the University of Maine School of Law.

The Belfast Garden Club has promoted the creation and care of public gardens and presented speakers to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening for more than 90 years. The 2020 Winter Program Series includes topics about conservation and the environment. For more information, visit BelfastGardenClub.org.
