Video Game Design at BFL

March 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Wednesdays March 15th, 29th, April 12th and 26th from 4 – 5pm, the Belfast Free Library will offer Video Game Design in Roblox Studio, an intuitive multi-player computer video game design tool, as part of the Hour of Code program for Young Adults. This popular game supports young people to learn computer programming through a fun and creative user interface that appeal to girls and boys of all interests.

As 21st century library patrons increasingly seek experience working in digital environments, video game design offers a playful fusion of creative technology and digital storytelling. This Hour of Code program at the Belfast Free Library will offer the young adult community (ages 11-18) the opportunity to build games in a supportive, informal learning environment among peers. Roblox Studio provides an accessible graphic user interface for creating simulations and games which participants will increasingly add scripts and modifications to as projects progress. Young game developers will gain new skills reading and writing in the Roblox Lua programming language, as well as new connections for computational literacy, and gateways to other programming languages.

During the Hour of Code members of the YA (Young Adult) community are invited to drop in with their own devices, or use the computers available on the Children’s floor. Librarians will be on hand to introduce, assist and troubleshoot.

The public is invited to come participate in this Young Adult program.
