Woodlot Management Course
March 1 @ 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:30pm on Wednesday, repeating until April 12, 2017
Woodland owners who are interested in learning about different options they have to “manage” their property have an opportunity to attend an 8-week course beginning March 1. “Management” means taking an active, informed role in making decisions about your land, regardless of your goals. The course will identify steps landowners can take to protect what they value about their property, to make long-term improvements to their woodland, and to ensure that the many benefits of woodland ownership continue into the future.
The class is being presented by Steve MacDonald, a forester with American Forest Management, and Morten Moesswilde, District Forester for Maine Forest Service. We will discuss forest management plans, tree identification, how forests grow, forest health, and options for timber harvesting. A number of guest speakers will also address topics such as wildlife habitat, non-timber forest products, working with loggers and foresters, and other information and assistance available for small woodland owners. Speakers and handouts will provide landowners with contacts and resources for assistance well into the future.
The class will meet on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Belfast High School, for eight sessions beginning March 1st (excluding April vacation week). This class is FREE but registration is required. This class has filled up in the past so early registration is recommended.
