Young Artists Gallery Takeover at Waterfall Arts

March 4, 2016 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

FREE

As part of national Youth Arts Month and Arts Advocacy Day this March, Waterfall Arts will fill their Clifford and Corridor Galleries with artwork by young people. The show, “Young Artists’ Gallery Takeover” will open with a public reception for the artists on Friday, March 4 from 5 to 8 pm.  All are welcome to attend.

All the work in the show resulted from an open call for art work sent to Waldo County schools, youth groups and young people. The purpose of the exhibit is to recognize these young people for what they are – the next generation of creative artists. In addition, the show will highlight what’s going on with the arts in the schools and recognize art educators and teachers.

Youth Art Month emphasizes the value of art education for all children and encourages support for quality school art programs and also provides a forum for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum subjects. The Waterfall Arts exhibit will be up through April 1st; gallery hours are 10 to 5 Tuesday through Friday and by appointment.

In addition, a free public talk on supporting creative development in young people by Bridget Matros, Coordinator of Youth and Family Outreach at Waterfall Arts, is scheduled for Wednesday, March 16 at 5:30 pm.

Since 2000, Waterfall Arts has served as the midcoast area’s non-profit community art center. 2016 marks its tenth year in Belfast; offering innovative classes, open studios, workshops, exhibitions, studio rentals, and cultural events.  The organization is supported by yearlong business sponsor, Revision Energy, individual and business donations, and charitable foundations. Waterfall Arts is located at 256 High Street in Belfast. For more information, visit waterfallarts.org or call 207-338-2222.
