Our Town Belfast Executive Director Search

Our Town Belfast, a well-established non-profit Main Street program in Belfast, Maine (population 7,000), is seeking an innovative Executive Director. The Executive Director will coordinate the organization’s activities and our mission to sustain a thriving and vibrant downtown. Our Town Belfast is one of ten certified Main Street programs in Maine, affiliated with the Maine Downtown Center’s Main Street Program and the National Main Street Center. Our Town Belfast’s work is grounded in Main Street America’s four-point approach centered on design, promotion, organization, and economic vitality.

Belfast, Maine, is a beautiful coastal community recently recognized by Downeast Magazine as the most livable community in Maine. The downtown area of roughly seventy-seven acres sits directly along the working waterfront and Passagassawakenag River. Belfast Historic District, a well-preserved portion of the downtown, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition, the downtown area has seen tremendous growth and revitalization efforts over the past twenty years.

Our Town Belfast has had a hand in a lot of exciting projects over the past several years; a few highlights include;

  • The Belfast Ice Festival and State of Maine Ice Carving Championship in February to bring thousands of people to Belfast during what would otherwise be the slowest time of year.
  • “As Unique as Belfast” project brought original artwork to five crosswalks throughout downtown.
  • The Holiday Passport Program encourages holiday shopping downtown.
  • Working with the City to launch a façade improvement grant program for property owners.
  • Collaborating on the Curbside Belfast outside dining program with the City of Belfast.
  • And more, see the complete list.

There are still many exciting opportunities in Belfast. The successful candidate will have a chance to help develop those opportunities and the future of Our Town Belfast and the downtown area.
