Kick up your feet and dance in the street!

6th Annual Belfast Street Party August 4th

It may be a tad unusual to party in the street on a Monday night, but downtown Belfast is no stranger to a funkier brand of fun.  On Monday, August 5th, Our Town Belfast will host the 5th Annual Belfast Street party  from 5 to 11pm on High Street  (from the traffic light to MacLeod Furniture).  With six hours of entertainment, ticketed rides ranging from bucking bronco to a 24’ foot climbing wall, the best food vendors from throughout the region, a children’s area with face painting and other activities, and free admission for all, this year’s Street Party promises to be the biggest and best yet.

The evening’s music will begin at 5pm with an hour of tunes by Breakers Jazz, followed by the University of Maine at Machias Ukulele Club at 6pm.  The Machias Ukuleles have grown quite a reputation throughout the state with their 1300+ song-book featuring everything from ragtime to rock and roll, country to jazz, the traditional to the obscure (and yes, they can even play Tiny Bubbles if you ask real nice).  At 7pm Don Nickerson and Country Mist return to this year’s Street Party and bring a large following along for the ride.  The party takes a wicked dance break around 8:30 for a choreographed Soul Train routine led by Courtney Porter that folks won’t want to miss.  Finally, CatchaVibe (a reggae band featuring pros from throughout the globe who now make their home in vacationland) takes us on home with a highly dance-worthy set from 9-11pm.

Of course, in addition to the great live music, there are plenty of activities for all ages up and down High Street.  Look for tarot readers, caricature artists, a photo booth, face painting, bounce houses, hula hoops and plenty of surprises to boot.  Thanks to the support of Camden National Bank, “safari rides” are returning for a second year – with children and adults having an opportunity to take a ride on a life-sized animatronic tiger or polar bear free of charge.  In addition to all of the great fair style food offered, Our Town Belfast will be selling popcorn and cotton candy to help raise funds for their programs which promote downtown Belfast and seek to keep our historic buildings and public spaces alive with commerce and culture.  Our Town Belfast is an accredited member of the national Main Street program which has been revitalizing downtowns throughout the country for over 30 years.

Donations will be welcomed at this free event and dollar tickets sold for ‘adventure climbing’ attractions.  Sponsorship opportunities are still available if your business would like to partner with this year’s event.  Our Town Belfast wishes to thank all of the many volunteers and local businesses who continue to make the Street Party such a success year after year.   For more information on the event, visit, find OTB on facebook, or call 207.323.9100.
